Schuyler County Girls Softball League is based on the tenets of Sportsmanship, Fair Play, Self-Esteem, Character, Leadership, and Having Fun.
The league is open to all girls between the ages of 8 and 16 and is funded by generous sponsors, nominal registration fees from registrants, numerous fund-raising events, and grants. We are a non-profit organization, and no girl is denied the opportunity to register and play dut to not being able to afford the fee.
In the past, we have been awarded a grant from the Women Sports Foundation for the purchase of a pitching machine, pitching machine balls, and softball gloves for those girls who may not be able to afford them. In making the award, the Foundation made note of the League's positive accomplishments and in building up self-esteem in the girls.
Other grants have included one from the Royce Haight Fund which benefits youth organizations and one from Wal-Mart which was tailored to supporting community organizations which have successfully provided positive direction for its target group, in this case the girls of Schuyler County.
For the past several years, the League has averaged between 50 and 75 girls from throughout the county in three age groups, and the girls compete against neighboring communities with the highlight being the Corning World Series in July. We have been very honored to have won several Sportsmanship awards over the past five years, including the World Series as voted upon by the other coaches and officials.
Thank you for your continued support.
